Hmmm....

Just when you go bragging about how you have it all figured out, your baby is doing so good, yadayadayada, they go and make you look like a fool.  Trust me, the last 2 nights I have paid for talking about how Paisley was sleeping through the night in her crib.   She has woken up every 3 hours (on the dot) to eat a massive amount and then doesn't want to fall right back asleep.  She's still eating a lot during the day too, which makes me question what is going on???

We started giving her cereal a week ago when her nursing was getting out of control in frequency.  Like every hour.  My nipples were starting to rebel.  So, I added in cereal as well as avocados which she LOVES.  She's taken to eating really well.  She doesn't hardly waste any on her face or clothes, she just gulps it off the spoon, swallows and is ready for more.  In fact, she eats about 1/2 an avocado mixed with 2 ounces of breastmilk in one sitting.

SOOOO...  I realize she will only be 4 months in 4 days, but what should I do about her hunger?  I feel like breastmilk simply isn't cutting it alone.  And I didn't give her avocado the past 2 days, just some cereal so maybe that has something to do with her lack of sleep.  Oh, and she isn't taking naps right now either.  This child can thrive on very little rest and remain happy.  Guess who can't?  ME!

Also, our nursery is the coldest room in our house.  Any tips on what to do to keep her warm?   How do you feel about space heaters?  What about blankets?  I've been giving her a lightweight (very breathable) blanket that she loves to cuddle up with, but then I'm nervous about it all night.  Advice would be welcome!

  1. Damn it...I typed a whole long response and it erased. Figures.

    Here's the summary:

-Space heaters-we use one in the nursery. I am never more than a few steps away when we use it, but it definetely helps the girls sleep.

-Blankets-I use light receiving blankets at night I place it over their waists and feet so they can't really pull it over their heads. I've never had a problem with the blanket being up on their face.

-Eating-sounds like Paisley is going through a growth spurt. THey say that when that happens the go back to eating like infants. Hopefully she'll get through this one soon!

  2. My son definitely had a sleep regression at 3 and a half months but if you google sleep regression the experts say it happens at 4 months. maybe she is having that?

we got one of those radiant space heaters at lowes for the babies room! our house is old (1910) and it gets COLD without it. highly recommended plus then you can save $$ and not have to keep the house heated so much at night.

  3. Babies...cutest things ever but they do make fools of us. :) I agree with above, maybe she is going through a growth spurt. Also, I have read that babies go through trouble sleeping at 4 months as well. Maybe a little bit of both? Not sure what to tell you about the food stuff though. Hopefully her 4 month appt is soon and you can talk to your doctor.

I actually LOVE sleep sacks. They have fleece and light weight, and are nice for naps/sleeping at night. I even lay her down on her stomach with her sleep sack. Good luck!

  4. Well, I know what you mean. Jackson is a rollercoaster - some days are AWESOME, others are nightmares. I also read that they go through a sleep issue at 4 months old, not sure why? And it sounds like she is going through a growth spurt - because I don't breastfeed, I'm not sure how you know how much she is getting...but I know for Jackson, if he is getting only 4 ounces, and he goes through a growth spurt or whatever it is, he starts eating more frequently. So, if she's getting the same amount each time she eats, but is craving more, I could see her eating more often. All this is so tough - and just when you think you have this figured out, she'll do something new...lol!

As for sleeping, I swaddle jackson then put another blanket over him at his waist, so that no matter how much he wiggles, it doesn't end up over his face. The other thought I had was to swaddle him in his miracle blanket as usual, which is pretty thin, then use one of the swaddlers over that to keep him warm. Between his warm sleeper and the swaddle, though, he stays pretty warm. Good luck... I know how tough this can be. Jackson is also not napping well - but he's not happy when he's tired, so it's awful. You know they need to sleep, but they can't seem to do it and Jackson just screams. It is exhausting. I hope Paisley evens out very soon:). They always do, so just remember that:).

  5. Hi! We use a space heater in her room that has a temperature gauge which keeps her room at the temp we set. It is small and fits right on her dresser and works awesome! It is Holmes version found at Target. I just use a light flannel blanket as well and she is fine. We started her on peas and carrots at four months plus some oatmeal at breakfast and that really helped. She is now six months old. We make our own food and freeze it in ice-cube trays which works really well. She is eating up her food and loves it! I have noticed since giving her pureed food she is sleeping more and we getting two good naps a day. Hope everything goes well!

  6. Ours started waking at night when they began to need solids. We started 2 servings of 4tbsp cereal per day and they slept thru the night again. As for blankets, we tuck one in tight (along the edges of the crib) up to about midway on their body so it can't come undone or cover their face. We only just started this because we were too nervous before. It actually helps them sleep better too. We also use fleece sleep sacks.

  7. We swaddle our babe in a super warm fleecy swaddle then put a blanket on him (he can't accidently get it on his face cause him arms are trapped). I'm not sure Paisley would go for that cause she's quite a bit older. As for the eating - maybe she's hit another growth spurt? Okay, I just read the other comments and realized that this is quite repetitive. Hopefully that means that we're all right and she'll finish sleep-regressing and eating like a little piggie in no time!

  8. I had this same situation with my twins at 4 months...I started researching and found that there is something called the "4 month old wakefuls".....
Anyway, it will pass. I fed my daughter when she woke and she slowly started taking less (and I offered her less) and then I decided to start to wean her from eating at night again (we had EXCELLENT sleepers since 7 weeks) and she responded just fine. Soo....if she's going through a growth spurt...feed her. If you feel its become habit (the getting up and feeding) then you can slowly wean her from it. Good luck!!!

  9. Sounds like she's a growing girl! She might be ready for more food!

  10. Ditto the sleep sacks! They are great. Also ditto the growth spurt. (Don't forget that breastmilk has many more calories than cereal!)

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
