Sleeping Beauty

Anyone who has read my blog for any length of time knows that sleep has been a battle in this house.  I cringe every single time I have to hear the phrase, "my baby slept through the night from the first night at home."  I try to imagine that these people are pathological liars and that babies like that have as much likelihood of existing as unicorns.  But I think maybe some people really are that lucky.  And I also think that until you have a baby who requires next to no sleep that you'll never know true sleep deprivation.

So you might guess that when Paisley finally started sleeping 8 hours straight, I felt like I'd won the lottery.  After all, she was like 8 months old.  And even then, we'd go through periods of waking up again for a while.  But things have been solid for about 3-4 months now so I crossed that obstacle off our list.

Until 2-3 weeks ago when she suddenly remembered that she likes to wake up in the middle of the night.  Except now, she can stand up in her crib and scream a heck of a lot louder than she could back then.  And I'm a little worried that my little climber may scale the crib wall at some point.  I've tried multiple attempts at solving this problem.

I've moved her bedtime earlier.  I've let her stay up later.  I've given her more milk before bed.  I've fed her more solids.  This is one tough nut to crack.  She is consistently waking me up at about 4-5 am.  And I get up at 7 am.  If you do the math, that adds up to a tired mama.

And she is so super easy to lay down at night.  I brush her teeth, turn on her sound machine and then just lay her down in her crib.  She curls up adorably and falls asleep without a peep.  So it's not like she hates her room.  And even if I bring her into our room to sleep with us which used to work wonders, she now wrestles and sticks her finger in my eyes and nose, and pulls my hair not so sweetly.

We've got an opening for an overnight nanny.  Pay won't be very much at all, but she sure is cute.    :)

  1. Oh this terrifies me. I have a feeling that avery is headed down this path. She will do great for 2 nights and trick me into thinking sheis a great sleeper, but then no, it is no sleep for me.
I hope paisley gets to sleeping better soon!!

  2. Honestly, this is exactly like my house. Presley goes down like an angel. We tried the staying awake later. More food. More milk and like clock work she wakes up between 4 and 5am every day. Now this isn't the worst for us. Since on a good work day we'd sleep till 6am. But I'd love to get ready in the morning while she was still sleeping. In my dreams. But it means one thing for us. WE HAVE to go to bed early ourselves. I have stopped trying to "Adjust her" and adjusted myself. We are hitting the sack by 9p. So if 4am is in our future....it sucks, but it doesnt kill us.

Not what you want to hear I am sure. Sucks cause the hubby and I like to have an hour or two to our selves at night. But we now have 1 hr!

One thing that works SOMETIMES for us is to get up with her snuggle, read a book and then put her back in her crib with her sippy cup of milk, snack cup and toys. Sometimes she will snack a bit, play and fall back to sleep. This is a once in a while things cause sometimes she will just stand up...throw the snacks and milk across the room and scream.

  3. Just a thought -- have you gotten her a stronger diaper? Liam gets up 30 mins early or more if we don't have him double diapered in a size 6 overnight diaper and a size 5 on top of that. It's not that he wets through but I think it gets just full enough that if he stirs it makes him wake up fully. I am also careful to make sure not to change him for bed til his last sippy has had some time to be peed out so his diaper won't be too wet overnight. Worth trying at least! =)

  4. Emma went thru a bout of that around the same age. The doctor told me it could be night terrors. When she'd do it, one of us would go in and rock her to calm her down, then put her back to bed.

  5. Well, Addison STILL does not sleep through the night, always up once or twice and she is 9.5 months old. I also get really pissy when I hear moms say their babies slept through the night right away - grrrrr!!! Last night, she got up at midnight and refused to go back to sleep. I was in and out of there for 2.5 hours before she finally gave up. Not fun. Sorry, wish I had some advice. If you get some good advice, pass it my way, will ya:)? Jax is my good sleeper. Has slept through the night since 6 months old. He's amazing! I sure do love him for it, lol!

  7. If it makes you feel any better I'm one of the moms you hated that my boys slept through the night at 8 wks, but as soon as we put them in their cribs they no longer want to sleep. They somehow think it's a fun game for mommy to wake up 6 times a night to put a paci back in. And they always wake up between 4-5am. And for us it's really hard to do the "cry it out" method with the fear of another baby waking up. Hopefully she is just going through a growth spurt or something.

  8. i hate when people "brag" about the age their kids slept through too. it is like they are acting like they are better parents or something. until you ask, "what did you do to get them to sleep through" and they say "nothing"; then you REALLY want to bang your head against a wall. some people really are that lucky i guess.

that being said, my 16.5 month old has NEVER EVER EVEN ONCE slept from bedtime to morning. not once.

  9. how is she sleeping during the day. Is she taking more than 1 nap during the day? Should not be taking more than 1 nap of 40min to 2 hours (max). Does she get any short naps 2-3 mins in the car?

  10. We've run in to the same thing with Casey! He's so easy at night and normally sleeps straight through no problem. I think he's got a bit of a cold and some new teeth coming in. At least, I hope that's it! Good luck!

  11. Hire me! I'll do it, for practice! haha That's one thing that really scares me. Sleep deprevation!!! I love sleep. I'm sure in the beginning you're running on excitement and adrenalin but after awhile the lack of sleep kills ya I bet. I hope Paisley starts sleeping better again for you :)

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
