Time for some sleep training...

Sleep training is equivalent to trying to make a 10-year-old feral cat try to learn and use a litter box. Well, at least for me it is. I apparently have the IQ of a two-year-old when it comes to getting my kids to sleep.

Paisley was a struggle. But yet, she was in her own crib by now and she took several long naps every day. My sweet boy wakes me up about three times to nurse overnight still, sleeps in our bed and naps in five minute increments all day.

Part of the issue is he is still in our room because she is still in what should be his crib. Also, he is just not as good at staying asleep through noise as she was and we're always on the go with her.

But I am sooo ready to get a full night's sleep. I'd like to be able to move around without fear of waking my tiny co-sleeper. And I realize that means I have to do some work...

We leave for Vegas in two weeks so my plan is to do this when we get back. I figure that trip would just put us back at square one if I bothered doing it now. So, I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a 2nd crib. I'll put it in her big girl room where I can sleep in her big girl bed as long as I need to.

And I hated cry it out but it sure did work for her quickly. Not painlessly, but it gave us results. Why can I just not have a baby who sleeps?!?

  1. I have asked myself that last sentence that you typed about 2 1/2 trillion times since Cash has been born. I CANNOT get him to sleep in his own bed all night. In the past 2 years and 2 months (that's roughly 760 nights --but who's counting?) He has slept through the night maybe..... 5 times? Seriously. It is insane! I hear other moms talk about how their babies just.. Sleep. Like its a no brainer. "Yeah... My child sleeps through the night? They always have? Don't all kids? Shouldn't YOURS be sleeping through the night by now".... I've heard it all. And I am usually left feeling like the worlds biggest idiot.

Anyway... I'm just letting you know that you aren't the only one out there with sleep issues. :)

Maybe when they go off to college we can start sleeping again?! :l

  2. Neither of my babies slept either, although Jax got good at it right when Addy was born:). Addy was up 2-3 times a night until she was 13.5 months old and I COULD NOT Take it anymore so we sleep trained her. Both responded well to CIO. It sucks, I said I'd never do it, but damn - this momma needs her sleep! lol! Let us know how it goes!

  3. Just remember, It sucks for us with cry it out but your baby won't ever remember it and you'll be so rested when you can sleep through the night! I don't have much advice...Callie cried it out but I was lucky to have one of those champion sleepers so it wasn't a huge ordeal for us. Hope Graham picks it up quickly for you!

  4. I did EVERYTHING I could to not do cry it out... but then, guess what? I got desperate and needed sleep and I resorted to cry it out. It was the best thing I ever did for him and us. He sleeps 12 hours straight at night and takes a 2 hour nap. You know from the first time that you'll be glad you did it. Hang in there!

  5. I would love to have one of those kids that sleeps. The boys do sleep in their beds, but they literally just starting sleeping through the night without waking up a couple of months ago. And yes now they sleep through the night but they wake up between 4:30-5:00 EVERY STINKING MORNING! How do people get their kids to sleep in? Now we have the new baby so I guess sleep doesn't matter either way. We'll sleep when we're 50 :)

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
