To travel or not to travel?

I need advice here. My husband and I LOVE to travel. We go on several trips a year and love to go on beach/sun/water type trips.

We would really like to go somewhere in the next 4-6 weeks before this little person joins us. I think it would be good for us to get away and enjoy time together. Plus, I could really use a break from work.

But, I'm really nervous about travel. I obviously won't go anywhere past 28 weeks. Our travel agent (who is awesome) has given us a couple of suggestions of destinations in the U.S. we could go to.

One is San Diego and we could go to Sea World which I think is super fun. Another choice (my husband is leaning towards) is a cruise to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Now, the good thing would be that if I needed medical care, both are U.S. and have great hospitals. However, my back is starting to HURT after being on my feet for long. And we'd be away from home.

For those that have already had kiddos or have made it to the 25-26 week point, do you feel like travel at that point would be enjoyable? What would you all do? Or does anyone have any other suggestions on places to go?

  1. Hey! Obviously, I don't have any experience with this having never actually produced a kid (yet!), but I am traveling to Costa Rica at 28 weeks. I might be crazy, but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to be with family before Elfie comes. I am definitely in support of taking a babymoon, but Sea World might be a bit much with all the walking (and hence your back problems).

  2. I am at 32 weeks now, and I would have felt comfortable traveling at 26 weeks. Just be sure to wear comfy shoes if are walking a lot and be sure to rest and take breaks often. Have fun!!

  3. The cruise sounds amazing! :) Go for it!

  4. A friend of mine went to Paris when she was 26 weeks for one last romantic trip and she's so glad she did! On a cruise, you can sight see or just chill out, so even if you're feet or back hurt, you don't have to do anything strenuous. Do it!!!!

  5. I would bet the cruise would be better for your back than San Diego. I'm sure you'll have opportunities to get out and walk around with the cruise but the nice thing is you don't have to. They have many nice pools and sun decks (and places for massages :) ) if you just want to relax. In addition they have all you can eat buffets, any cuisine you'd want, and room service whenever you want it for any cravings that may come along. :) My vote is for the cruise.

  6. My doctor didn't want me traveling past about 33-34 weeks. We went to Branson shortly before that cut-off and spent time on the lake. I had no problems. I say go for it!! I'd worry the cruise may make you sea sick, but who knows.

  8. I vote cruise! Sea world might be a bit much with your back bothering you!

Sounds like fun. I'd kill to get one last "fling" in before our beans arrived....just won't work out with our schedule! Keep us posted on what you decide!

  9. Yes, I think traveling 24-26 weeks would be great. I am 23 1/2 weeks and I'm heading to Munich (for work... boo!) tomorrow. Although I'm not necessarily looking forward to traveling by myself (or a 7 hour flight), my body still feels great, and it would be a perfect time for a little vacay.

    ENJOY IT!

  10. Definitely go on the trip!! I flew across the country at 25 weeks and hiked the whole time I was there. No problems and totally worth it.

  11. I would think it would be just fine. Like you said it would be before 28 weeks. Just make sure and take it easy no matter what. But I think you could go. Run it by your gyno just to make sure they don't think its a bad idea and then go enjoy yourself.

  12. Both those trips sound safe and relaxing. And if your back's gonna kill anyway, why not suffer on a deck chair overlooking the beautiful sea rather than at work?

My husband and I are thinking of a summer trip to Europe (when I'll be 24-25 weeks), as long as things remain uncomplicated, of course. Babymoon, anyone?

  13. Here are my thoughts, dear blogger friend, definitely TRAVEL :) Of course, I don't have experience with making a decision like that, but I really think that time would be great for you and your husband! At first, I thought the cruise would be better because there might not be as much walking and you could lounge around a lot if you needed to. But then I thought, what if God forbid you needed a hospital, you would probably be in better hands...on land..closer to a hospital. And then I stopped myself again, thinking that I wish us IF girls didnt care so much how far we are from a hospital :) San Diego is beautiful! But Im sure the Virgin Islands are amazing too. So, basically I am no help whatsoever. :)

  15. I know you already know what we think but having had my babies at 28 weeks I would be very hesitant about going on a cruise where you would be far from a hospital if something went wrong. We loved San Diego for relaxing on the beach. It was gorgeous. Just my loving thoughts.

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
