Finding Balance

Last week, the kids started Mother's Day out for the summer session.  They like to call it Children's Day Out to make it sound less like parents are just dumping off their kids for a few hours of sweet freedom, but let's call it what it is.

Paisley has been there for a year now, but Graham is just now old enough.  She has loved it and I feel like she has learned a ton.  And let me tell you how amazing it has been to have two days a week to do my errands, work out, catch up at the clinic, pee alone, etc.

I drop those two off without a second glance, dodge the other parents in the hallway, and peel out of the parking lot headed for alone time.  You can hear me giggling with glee and celebrating victory.

Yesterday, I went to the gym for an hour then mowed our front yard.  I showered alone, ate lunch with my husband, and ran a ton of errands.  All in 5 hours time.  With kids, it would have taken... Until the end of time.  Lets face it, nothing gets accomplished with these two around.

And I am such a better mom when given the chance to miss the kids.  Distance makes the heart grow fonder. :)

I am super pumped about the fall semester when they'll each go three days a week!  Yippee!!!  Finally, I'm getting a balance back in my life.  We've been seeing our friends a lot more, our kids are getting more fun with each passing day, and I am sneaking in some "me" time.

  1. Yay for alone time! Grayson goes to school 5 days:/ week and tomorrow I am going to sign Charlotte up for MDO in the fall. I can't wait!

  2. Haha "giggling with glee" totally describes me, too, when I dropped them off at MDO. Sadly they don't go during the summer. There is nothing stranger than peeing with 4 heads trying to peek into the toilet at the same time. Counting down the days til the fall when it starts up again!!

  3. I just can't imagine being a SAHM or the the hybrid version you are currently doing. I really enjoy my time at work! I like having adult interaction and being able to eat lunch in peace. I agree that I am a better mom for Avery because of the distance, not despite it. Also, I am confident Avery is happier out and about with other kids and activities than being at home with me all the time! Maybe if she was less active or if she was timid it wouldn't suit her so well?

I am so glad you are feeling some balance!

  4. Yay for peeing alone! Except when Davie's not there I'm still trying to shoo the cat and dogs out the door. *sigh* Davie starts Mother's Day out three days a week in August. I hope she loves it! I mostly want her to learn socialization skillz.

  5. The sweet taste of "me" time. Sometimes I do try to remember what it was like to chew my food or pee/poop alone. haha. Thankfully, my MIL is really close by and takes Samantha some afternoons for a few hours so I can get some "regroup" time :) But then a lot of times I spend it cleaning or doing chores! So glad you are getting some balance back!

  6. YAY! Can I just say I am not at all slightly jealous;)>? I have none except for work right now and it SUCKS! Jax will go to preschool 3 hours a morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays in September and I am just looking forward to having just 1 kid. I NEED A BREAK lol! So...I have set my sights to fall 2014 when they will be away together for a morning or 2 a week:). Of course, I'll probably just end up working....sigh.... Balance is not something I have right now...but I love reading about yours, it gives me hope:)!

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
