My Expanding Waistline

What kind of pregnancy blog (still weird saying that) is complete without embarrassing photos of the belly? I've always prided myself on my flat tummy, yet I've never been so proud of my new and quickly growing bump. I feel prettier than ever and I waited SOOO long to see my belly grow to the point where I could no longer see my nether-regions. Plus, I use to hate it when we'd eat a huge meal and my belly would hang over my pants. Now, it's already hanging over when we start eating. Awesome!

So, here's my 14th week pic. I definitely had the most growth this past week. People I don't know that well are now noticing that I'm pregnant, as are most of my patients. Bad news is that they're wanting to make stuff for me and they keep touching me. YIKES!!! This is the PG-13 version with partial nudity. Viewer discretion is advised...

Hard part right now is that my shirts are getting ridiculous. I have a couple of winter maternity shirts that friends have loaned me, but most are summer. Which will be the majority of what I need since I'm due in August. So, a lot of my shirts don't quite meet up to my pants right now. Not really the look I'm going for, so I'm going to work on getting some longer shirts!

One thing I've already learned since growing my "bump" is that everyone feels that it's an appropriate conversation piece. I had a co-worker say that I look about 5 months pregnant. A patient said that they have a friend who didn't show until 8 months and she wore her size 0 jeans until then. Then they added on that they bet I'm jealous. Ummm....what exactly does that mean? That I'm too chubby? My baby is growing too well? Sorry if I've slacked off on the crunches!

I came home slightly hurt about all the comments and the reactions to how far along I am, but sweet Aaron convinced me that I'm so petite that my belly just shows earlier. Maybe it's not true, but it's very kind. And I've only gained 2 pounds, so it's not like I've put on a lot of padding. So, I'm going to continue loving my new curves! If you have suggestions on what I can say when people insult my growing physique, I'm open to them...

And lastly, HOORAY FOR THE SECOND TRIMESTER!!!! Hang in there, Baby Gil!!!

  1. Umm, personally, I would never be jealous of someone who didn't show until 8 months!! I think one of the things we look most forward to as pregnant women is watching the belly grow. You look perfect and I can't wait to see you get bigger, and bigger, and bigger!!!!!

  2. Yeah, I would be worried if I didn't really show till 8 months. I'm ready for my appt today to make sure everything is going good because I don't feel like I've grown much and according to my bathroom scale, have maybe gained a pound. But, I think I had more of a cushion to overcome compared to you for the belly to show through. :) Can't wait to see you Saturday!!!

  3. You look great! People can be so rude and it is hard to ignore comments, but rest assured, you look wonderful.

  4. Either the "not showing til 8 months" person is a liar, or they have no idea what they are talking about. One of my girlfriends is a size 0 (Can even fit in to some kids clothes) and she started showing at like 5-6 weeks. She only gained 18 pounds in her whole pregnancy. Be proud of your growing belly, because you have a miracle brewing in there!! Just tell people with their stupid statements to piss off....or send them to me, I'll do it for you, and I won't be as nice!!

  5. You look great, your bump is beautiful and whoever did wear their size 0 jeans up to 8 months. WHATEVER!!!! Seriously! I was so not wearing any of the jeans I wore before I got prego at even 6 months. I still can't wear those jeans and my baby is almost 6 months old. Trust me you grow to love the body your baby gives you. And you look beautiful!

  6. Tell them it's grown an inch per month that you tried for that child!!! So that would be what 20 months or so (right? can't remember) and then say I would gladly look 8 months pregnant at 14 weeks :) Now shut your mouth people I look beautiful!!!

I think that will do it ahah.

  7. Your belly is so adorable! Try these sayings out:

"Go Away, You're Scaring the Baby"

"Unless you are the person who put this baby in here, or the person who is going to take it out, you are NOT allowed to touch my belly!"

"Gee, thanks for the advice, I had no idea you were an obstetrician!"

I wish I was this creative but I got them from this site, I think it could solve your problem of what to say and what to wear!

  8. Your belly is sooo cute! And you do NOT look big for 14 weeks -- are you kidding me?! You look just right or even a little smaller. See, I totally do NOT get people. Everyone keeps telling me how small I look (like almost in an unimpressed/bored way) for carrying quads. It always feels like an insult somehow instead of a compliment. It annoys the crap out of me. So personally I think people just say something to be annoying and don't really consider how it will affect the pregnant person.

    Seriously, you look adorable!

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
