6 month check-up

Paisley has celebrated her 1/2 birthday already (in Vegas) and went for her shots today.  It was great as always to see all of my former co-workers and I love our pediatrician.  She got to play with lots of new people, but then we had to get 5 shots.  :(

She screamed about it for hours several minutes and then fell quickly asleep.  She's still napping now, so I'm hoping she'll wake up in a great mood and forget all about it!  The little peanut is only weighing 14 pounds, 4 ounces which is between 10-25%, but she's 26.75" long which is 75%.  Our pediatrician isn't too concerned about her weight since I'm petite and she's SOOO active.  And by SOOO active, I mean she wears me out by the end of the day.  She still goes to the baby gym to "exercise", and our instructor says she's a "multi-tasker."  Good description.

So, her doctor wants us to start giving her whole milk, yogurt and meat baby food now to try to pack on some pounds.  I'm going to continue breastfeeding because she and I both enjoy it.  But apparently I'm producing some low-fat milk which is hard to believe considering how much Mexican food I eat!  And it's really crazy because I was a total chunk as a baby!!!  To the point where I never really crawled because it was impossible.

Thanks for all of your suggestions on our future reproductive efforts.  We're definitely taking it one day at a time and I know some of you think it's crazy that we'd already be talking about it with a 6-month-old.  But it took us a very long time to have her and we're already in our 30's.  My fertility isn't going to improve over the next few years and my surgery may not work for long, so I probably don't have a long time to ponder this.  Plus, I don't want kiddos very far apart in age.  SO, I think I'll continue to go with the "I'm not preventing anything" approach and see where this takes us.  If it happens, we'll welcome another baby with open arms and realize how fortunate we are.  If not, we'll praise God that we were given one amazing miracle!

  1. I love that she celebrated her half birthday in Vegas!!!!!!

I hope that you get exactly what is right for your family (baby or not). It sounds like Paisley is keeping you busy either way!!!

  2. happy half birthday, paisley!!!

i know what you mean re: ttc for #2. i was talking about it when g was only 1 month. when i asked DH, he looked at me like i was crazy, but then said, "'re not getting any younger...." i almost smacked him for saying it, but those are my sentiments exactly. and i love g so much...i would love to welcome another little into our lives!

  3. I got pregnant with #3 (in December) when my twins were just 7 months old. We tried for 2 years, went through 3 rounds of in-vitro and God surprised us with a miracle. So it CAN happen and I'm SO happy I wasn't taking anything to prevent a pregnancy because this, is truly a miracle. It's going to be INSANE....but a blessing. Best of luck!

  4. Sounds like she is doing so well! Jax weighed 19lbs 3oz at his 6 month appt - yikes!!! He is a chunker:). Good luck with the "not preventing it." That's how our little Addison came to be, and she is a sweetie pie:).

  5. Happy Half Birthday, Paisley! I'm glad to hear everything is going so well! I'm surprised about the doc's recommendation to give her whole milk...I thought we had to wait until one year for that? Zachary is a whopping 18 pounds at 6 months. Yikes! Enjoy your petite beauty while it lasts. They get heavy FAST!

  6. I hadn't had a chance to comment on your post about having another child - mainly because I'm dealing with a 19mo old and a 2mo old. We didn't have fertility issues, but we took the what is meant to happen will happen approach after Emma. We wanted our kids close together too. Its hectic now, but I have no regrets. I think they'll be super close (and fight like cats and dogs) during their life! Good luck with whatever you decide & happy half b-day to Paisley!!

  7. Sophie is practically Paisley's size (6oz bigger) which makes me feel better because she is 6.5 months adjusted so I guess her weight is good. This post makes me feel relief because her GI doc is starting to push for a feeding tube and it's stressing me out.

As for #2, I think it's great that you're feeling ready! I can't wait to hear about the journey (although I will pray it means you just announce it in a couple months because it was easy)

  8. Hadn't checked your blog in forever...the whole 2 kid thing. As I scanned through all the posts I missed, I smiled. What a blessing Paisley is and how happy your little family is! I think you glow more as a mommy than even when you were pregnant! God has blessed you guys so much and has a fantastic plan for your family! Whether that includes more children, I don't know, either way I'm excited to see what he has in store for you!
