Bye-bye Booby Milk?

Paisley seems to be weaning herself from the breast.  I had it in my mind that we might be getting to the time where I was ready to be done, but she may be deciding for me.  She's loving solid foods of ALL types, and eats really well.  She'll eat mexican food, pasta, hamburgers, veggies, fruits, yogurt, pancakes, etc.  And she isn't a fan of plain milk, but loves coconut milk, almond milk, and chocolate milk.  And since the little lovebug is on the petite end, her pediatrician encourages us to give her those fatty food for the calories.  (Yes, our pediatrician also lets her have cow's milk after 6 months of age.  Everyone has a different opinion on this, but a lot say 9 months now.)

This makes me both happy and sad.  It will be nice to finally have my body back after SO many years of letting someone else control it.  First it was my RE, with the infertility treatments, ovarian drilling, miscarriage, D&C, charts, and medications.  Then it was my sweet fetus for 9 months.  Now it's been my baby for the past 9 months.  I think it's time that I re-take control!

My breasts are definitely aching and I am SO tempted to pump to relieve it.  And I'm still nursing her when she wants, but it's only 2-3 times a day now and only for a minute.  She isn't putting much effort in anymore, so she doesn't empty them.   I thought just ripping off the band-aid would be the best idea, until I realized that this theoretical band-aid is centered across my nipples.  And I have lumps all over my poor boobs that make even my armpits sore.

Breastfeeding has been very good for us.  It's worked out well for us both and has been much easier than I'd expected based on what I'd heard from others.  But maybe it's time to let go...

  1. Sorry to hear she is weaning herself. It's bitter sweet but you are right...you will finally have your body back!

  2. good for you for nursing her for so long!!

my baby is not quite 4 months old, and my goal is 9 months. I'm hoping to have enough milk in the freezer to get her through the rest of the first year.

question - your pedi lets her have cow's milk before 1 year old?

  3. I am also hoping to nurse until 9 months (my baby is only 3 months). I pump more than I nurse and I don't enjoy it at all, but I know it's best for baby.

Paisley is getting big! It's great that she's not a picky eater (yet)!

  4. I have NO idea how weaning is supposed to go, but sounds like you are getting cues that it is time! I will be interested to see how it goes for you so I can take notes for when the time comes for us. I do know it must be bittersweet - I would also love my body back, but I so love that nursing time with my sweet girl:). They grow so darn fast, don't they?!

  5. I can't think of anything more perfect than a baby who's weaning herself just as you were ready to wean her. I hope the process isn't too painful. I'm thinking back to those first few postpartum days of engorgement and cringing. Hope it's better than that!

  6. I feel like I've read so may booby posts this past week - or maybe it is just that I'm paying extra attention since my boobies are so terrible sore and painful at the moment. I've always assumed that we would breastfeed, but I really can't imagine the thought if I don't find some relief from this pain before our baby is born.

It sounds like breast-feeding has been a really good fit for your family. I've loved watching my best friend breastfeed her daughter who is now 18 months old and slowly (very slowly) weaning herself. She'll go for 24 hour stretches without any milk, then have a rough day/night and need the comfort. Good Luck!!!

  7. Ouch - sounds painful! But how nice that Paisley seems to have made the decision for you. My two kids both decided when they were done and it was so nice to just follow their lead instead of having a battle of wills like some moms have to endure.

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
