Where to Park the Junk in the Trunk?

I need some advice from those who have researched this, really thought about it, or those who have already been there and know from experience.

Do we need a chair or glider in our nursery? We had decided to get a recliner because it would be the most comfortable for both me and my tall husband who can't fit in gliders. But now that I think about it, I plan on the baby sleeping in our room for 3 months. Then, I want to get the baby used to being laid down sleepy (but awake) in their bed.

With that plan, I don't really see the need for a chair at all. Except I guess if I wanted to feed them in there or read to them. In which case, maybe I do need a chair. But now we're back to where we started, do I need a glider or a recliner?

And keep in mind that I have a very involved husband who will do a good amount of caregiving. So I definitely want to make him comfortable too. ANY suggestions???

  1. Congrats on your pregnancy! I also have PCOS and I know the terrible ups and downs that are associated with trying to conceive.
I loved using a glider in my son's nursery. It helped a lot with nursing him since I was really comfy and could gently move us back and forth. My husband hardly ever sat in the nursery with my son, he preferred to hold him and walk around our house so based on that I'm really glad I picked out what I wanted. Besides, I was home for an entire year with my son on Maternity Leave so he knew it was going to be my choice ;)

  2. I like the idea of having some kind of chair in the nursery so that you can create a sanctuary (kinda sorta) where you can feed and maybe read to him/her and have a quiet, peaceful time. I do not like gliders as they make me motion sick. Also, I don't like the idea of conditioning her to fall asleep or eat only if she's being rocked. We opted for a chair and a half. Russ wanted to be able to cozy up to us during feedings and at other times. I also like it because I feel like it'll be in her room for a long, long time and I imagine (fantasize) that we'll have story time every night in that chair as she grows. That said, I'd go with the recliner. There will definitely be nights when little one is sick or just fussy and being able to lay back in the room and maybe even get some sleep will be much appreciated. My friend who has a 6 month old sleeps on the nursery floor every so often - doesn't sound like fun and a recliner could really help. Good luck!!!

  3. I love my Glider but also spent quite a bit of time in our recliner. I think either way you'll be fine, but being able to rock the baby will be helpful. I kept Emma in our room until 2 months mainly because Adam was really slow in getting me the plywood for our motion sensor. When we have another kiddo, its going in the crib from night one. As a first time mother I know that's a super scary thought, and I'm not sure I could've done it, but I'd definetely consider it. You can get an Angel Care motion sensor with video monitor. I don't have the video monitor, but the motion sensor has been by far the best investment for my piece of mind!!

  4. We used an old rocking chair. We ended up having our daughter in a bassinet by our bed for the first 3 months and then moved her to a crib. We only ended up using the rocking chair (5 times) when she got a cold and had trouble going back to sleep.

  5. My sister in law had a glider and enjoyed it but there were many times she'd fall asleep or like a previous response, would end up on the floor when Connor had a bad night once he was a little older and she kinda wishes she had a recliner.

  6. We got a glider for Jackson's room and have used it every day since we brought him home. I don't think you will regret the purchase if you just find something you both can be comfortable in. Having a chair in Baby Gil's room will serve many functions. The best one by far will be pre-bedtime and naptime cuddling. *sigh* There's just nothing better. : )

My plan was for Jackson to stay in our room with us for at least 3 months as well, but after three weeks of lousy sleep (for both Jackson and myself) we parted ways and haven't looked back since! In other words, the best made plans...

  7. I love my glider. You know that I am super Baby-Wise and always put Harper to bed awake but there are times when you just want to rock your baby because it feels good. He/she won't be small forever...

  8. One more thing. We have a double-wide glider which is great because both Matt and I can sit in it with her. We like to read to her every night before we put her down to bed :)

Matt's aunt owns Room To Dream in Northpark mall and has double gliders.

  9. I would recommend a chair that would be comfy for either of you, and that "goes" with the room so you can keep it there for a long time. Even if the baby is in your room at night, you can nurse there during the day, and it will be great for cuddling, storytime, or just for you to have somewhere to sit while he/she plays.

  10. We have a glider and I love it. My husband enjoys it also. He is about 6' 1" so he's not tiny but not huge either.
We rock our son to sleep in it every night. He is still awake though when we lay him down. But its so peaceful and nice to sit and glide back and forth in the sweet nursery. We also sit in it while hanging up his clothes or while reading to him. We use ours allot but its entirely up to you guys. My bro and sis in law have one of the old fashioned wooden rocking chairs and they like that also. Good luck finding what works good for you guys :)

Meet Our Little Miracle, Paisley Kate

The post I have been waiting 2 years to write is finally here and I can't really believe it. On Saturday, I woke up at 8:30 a.m. with BAD contractions. By the 2nd one, I knew I was in "real" labor. They were SO different than the braxton-hicks. I got out of bed and decided that I'd take a bath, until water ran down both legs. The pain after that got pretty unbearable immediately and I was having contractions every 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. So, I called Aaron at work to tell him it was "the big day". He decided I was kidding until I nearly leapt through the phone to wring his neck. :) We got to the hospital an hour later and I was dilated to a 4 and having very active contractions. They quickly got me moved to an L&D room. I got my epidural ( AMAZING - we'll talk about this in its own post soon) at a 6 and then my doctor broke my water. (Apparently at home, it had just leaked a pocket of fluid). After he broke my water, labor started picking up

The Resurrection

So here we are.  It's now a blog graveyard.  The followers have long since moved on and infertility is something that I've somewhat put in the past (only considering I don't want any more kids).  So why am I here and writing again?  What's the purpose?   This was my safe place.  It was where I came when everything seemed much too hard and I needed to feel comfort.  I wanted to express myself in a venue that others would reassure me and even understand me.  I still love and have always loved this blog.  It guided me during some of the hardest years of my life, dealing with infertility and miscarriage. And you know... I guess it will help me again now.  Because life is freaking TOUGH.  You know the phrase "I've went through Hell and back"?  Yeah, I feel that in my soul now.  I could have a blowout in the middle lane of the highway during rush hour traffic, manage to pull over my car on the side and call for roadside assistance without my pulse increasing ev

I'm Going to Let You in on a Little Secret

My dear blog readers, Those of you who know me well know that I do not keep secrets. It's actually physically impossible for me to keep a secret. So, it's going to really surprise many of you to find out that I've been staying silent about something pretty big. So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the little miracle that came into our lives 13 weeks ago: We wanted to keep it to ourselves for a while to make sure things went okay this time. It's been a very terrifying 13 weeks and we are just now starting to feel that things could actually go well. We feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant with this baby and we are so grateful for every minute. To my friends who are still battling infertility , I'm not even sure where to start. You've been there with me through it all. You've held my hand and given me a shoulder to cry on when times are tough. You always know the right things to say because you've been there before. And you pray and
